If your driveway is looking worn out or is cracked and pitted, it may be time to pave it. If this is the case, you need to know when to complete this project because certain times are better and spring and summer are considered the best seasons to pave your driveway.

Asphalt driveways can last around 20 years and when the time comes to replace or repair your old driveway, you need to consider the best paving weather. It’s no surprise that spring and summer are ideal because of the temperatures of the air and driveway surfaces during these seasons. You must be mindful of the temperature when paving an old or damaged driveway because asphalt is a hot mix and must be kept at a temperature between 80 °C and 135 °C. Ideally, the temperature outside should be at least 10 °C and above as this will allow pavers to pour it, seal it and smooth it before it cools.

Summer is especially ideal for paving because of the high temperatures and also because of the drier weather. Just make sure you don’t lay asphalt on a rainy day because this can cause water damage to the base layers of the asphalt driveway and can also cause the asphalt to cool too quickly.

REPAIRS

Repairs need to be completed right away, and this is true even if it is in the middle of winter. If you notice any damage, you can’t wait, even if it is freezing outside. While summer is the best time of year to use asphalt, it can be used in the winter and a professional company will complete the necessary repairs regardless of weather. They may have to apply a temporary fix during the winter to prevent it from getting worse, and will apply a permanent solution once the weather is warmer.  There is a cold mix asphalt that does not have to be kept hot, and this will be used in the winter to repair driveways for the time being. Once summer arrives, the driveway can be fixed properly.
