Decorative Concrete & Asphalt

Custom Concrete & Asphalt Driveways in Vancouver, BC

Stamped patterns, custom colours and exposed aggregate finishes that turn an ordinary driveway, patio or walkway into the best-looking surface on the street.

Why Go Custom

Make Your Driveway One of a Kind

A plain grey slab isn’t your only option. We offer a wide range of colours, textures and patterns for both concrete and asphalt, applied with dyes, stains, stamps, aggregates or etching.

These finishes take real skill to get right. After five decades of decorative work, we know which methods suit your design, your budget and our wet Lower Mainland climate. Many finishes that were once concrete-only can now be applied to asphalt too, giving you even more choice.

01 · Custom Colours

Colour Options for Concrete and Asphalt

Concrete can be coloured with stains, integral colour mixed into the concrete, dry-shake colour hardeners or dyes. Some give rich, even colour right through the slab; others create a natural, variegated look on the surface. Applying them evenly takes experience, and that’s where five decades on the job makes the difference.

Asphalt can be coloured too, with a coloured top coat over standard asphalt or with colour mixed right into the mix. The range is narrower than concrete, but new products keep arriving, so ask us what’s available.

02 · Stamped Patterns

The Look of Brick and Stone, Without the Joints

Both concrete and asphalt can be stamped to look like paving bricks, slate or natural stone. A stamped surface usually goes in faster than individual pavers, and there are no gaps for weeds and moss to grow through.

Stamped concrete is the more durable choice and can even be formed on vertical surfaces. Stamped asphalt can be applied over an existing asphalt driveway. For ideas, see our stamped concrete patterns guide and stamped concrete pros and cons.

03 · Exposed Aggregate

Rugged, Slip-Resistant and Built to Last

Exposed aggregate works for a whole driveway, as a border or in alternating panels, and it’s ideal for pool decks, patios and walkways. In Greater Vancouver a blackish-grey stone is standard, typically 10 mm or 15 mm, in a concrete mix of at least 30 MPa.

For special finishes, decorative stone such as crushed granite or marble can be seeded into the surface by hand. Either way, timing the retarding, exposing and curing correctly is what makes the finish last. Learn how to seal exposed aggregate concrete to keep it looking its best.

FAQ

Custom Finish Questions, Answered

With proper installation and resealing every few years, a stamped concrete driveway typically lasts 25 years or more.

Stamped asphalt can be applied over an existing asphalt driveway in good condition. Stamped concrete has to be poured new, so it can’t be stamped over existing concrete. We’ll assess your surface during a free estimate and recommend the best option.

A smooth sealed surface can get slippery in our rainy climate, so a slip-resistant additive can be mixed into the sealer. Exposed aggregate is naturally slip resistant, which makes it a popular choice for walkways and pool decks.

Sweep and rinse it regularly, reseal every two to three years, and use a concrete-safe de-icer instead of rock salt in winter. Our concrete driveway maintenance guide covers the details.
