How to Remove Stains from Your Driveway

Residential driveway

A fresh driveway will elevate your home’s exterior and will provide it with a whole new appearance. Fresh driveways always look better because they are clean, rich, and dark, all of which allow for a uniform appearance. Maintaining a clean driveway is not always easy because they fade and can stain easily by oil, grease, and other elements. This will happen naturally over time and if you ever spot any stains, the following tips will help you get rid of them:

Cola

This is something you likely already have at home, so you will be happy to know that it can be used to remove oil stains from your driveway. Both Coca-Cola and Pepsi will work, and you simply have to pour one or two cans of cola over the affected area and let it sit overnight. Mop up the excess oil first and pour this substance over it and in the morning, hose it down and you will instantly see a difference.

Baking soda

A stiff brush and baking soda can also be used to clean your driveway and to remove stains. Pour a large amount of it over the stained areas and scrub it thoroughly using your brush. Allow the baking soda to sit for a minimum of 30-minutes and rinse off with a hose. If you do not give it time to sit, this method may be ineffective as it needs time in order for it to successfully remove stain particles. Do not be afraid to use generous amounts.

Cat litter

This may come as a surprise but cat litter is actually a very effective way of removing stains from your driveway. You must first mop up any excess liquid from your driveway and then pour some cat litter over the stain. Use the heel of your foot to rub it into your driveway and let it sit overnight to achieve the best results. In the morning, sweep up any of the cat litter and hose down your stains.

Powdered laundry detergent

This works much the same as baking soda and has the same effect when it comes to removing stains from your driveway. Sprinkle some powdered detergent over the stained area after mopping any excess liquid and scrub it with a stiff brush. Add some water as well and allow it to sit for 30-minutes, after which you can rinse off the stains with a hose.

Oven cleaner

Spray the stain with this product until the area is well saturated and allow it to sit for ten minutes. After this time, turn your hose to the highest pressure setting and spray away the oven cleaner.
